  • Trip Odometer A, showing all my driving since purchasing the car (there was a little prior to my purchase: my demo driver with Barbara, for example). I took this upon return from Snow Ranch, a 225 mile round trip.<br /><br />From 9 o'clock clockwise around the outside: the battery state (depleted), seat belt indicator, compass, parking brake indicator, transmission selector indicator, gas tank state (about 40% full), vehicle odometer, display mode selector, and total range indicator. In the middle: the speed readout, trip odometer, fuel used readout, and average fuel economy. originalDate:Saturday, March 5, 2011, 16:43;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/30s;;isoEquivalent:50;;aperture:2.8;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600
  • Trip odometer B, showing the results from a round-trip to Snow Ranch (model rocket launch). originalDate:Saturday, March 5, 2011, 16:43;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/40s;;isoEquivalent:100;;aperture:3.6;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600

  • Tutorial Mode for the "basic" display, which is the one we've been showing. originalDate:Saturday, March 5, 2011, 16:44;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/50s;;isoEquivalent:50;;aperture:4.0;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600
  • Tutorial Mode for the "enhanced" display. The two energy capacity indicators (battery and gas tank) are both on the left now, with the active energy provider larger, in the middle, and bright, and the provider not in use on top, smaller, and dimmed.<br /><br />The funny green ball on the right is the "efficiency gauge." The meatball moves further up or down as you accelerate or decelerate more aggressively. originalDate:Saturday, March 5, 2011, 16:44;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/40s;;isoEquivalent:50;;aperture:4.0;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600

  • The energy information display gives you a graphical tale of the tape. Again, this is following the 225 mile Snow Ranch round-trip (no opportunity to recharge at the ranch). Didn't quite make 50 mpg on this trip, but I wasn't sparing the liquid refined dead dinosaurs on the way home (i.e., I was bookin', pushing it pretty hard). No, the battery capacity isn't really 55+ miles: this include mileage on the battery that was garnered through regenerative braking while on gasoline. (The gasoline engine was providing all the energy for the electric motor up the hills, then, when coasting down, the battery slurped up juice created in the descent.) originalDate:Saturday, March 5, 2011, 16:42;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/60s;;isoEquivalent:50;;aperture:4.0;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600
  • A new day, a full charge. Note the battery is now the primary energy source, and the gas tank has a (nominal, approximate) 99 miles of gasoline, for a total range of 139 miles. Also note that the charging cord is still connected, and the car warns you of that (and of the charging door being open). originalDate:Sunday, March 6, 2011, 10:45;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/40s;;isoEquivalent:100;;aperture:3.2;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600

  • One of the screens for the energy status display system. Legend shows the energy source (battery power, regenerative braking, engine power, or battery and engine); cutsie animation in the graphic shows same. originalDate:Sunday, March 6, 2011, 10:48;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/40s;;isoEquivalent:50;;aperture:3.6;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600
  • The Voltec drive system has three modes. Sport Mode provides better throttle responsiveness; Mountain Mode maintains a higher level of charge in the battery. (Switching from Normal Mode to Mountain Mode with full battery will show an immediate drop from 40 mile range to about 25 mile range. This has nothing to do with the extent or expected current draw, and everything to do with maintaining a larger reserve charge. One trick: use Mountain Mode to retain ~15 miles of battery charge, for use in town at the destination following a freeway drive.) originalDate:Sunday, March 6, 2011, 10:48;;cameraModel:PENTAX Optio SV;;exposureTime:1/40s;;isoEquivalent:100;;aperture:3.6;;focalLength35mm:34.9mm;;width:800;;height:600
